It can feel hard to feel safe with all that is going on in the world. Feeling unsafe can stress your nervous system out causing digestive issues (gas, bloating, constipation/diarrhea), heartburn, high blood pressure, anxiety, headaches, muscle or joint pain, lack of motivation, or hyperactivity.
If you feel like your life is being threatened, please seek help. For domestic abuse call the National Domestic Violence Hotline 1−800−799−7233. For immediate support, call 911.
Steps to Feeling Safe:
- Recognize that safety does exist and that you deserve it.
- Remember times when you have felt safe and joyful. When you are feeling stressed or unsafe, turn to your journal or fond memory and focus on it. For example, if you remember feeling relaxed and warm laying on the beach, bring up a memory of that, and allow it to flow into your fears. Find your safe place by listening to my Safe Place Guided Meditation.
- Create a gratitude journal. It is a great way to focus on all that is going right in your life.
- Support your physical body: Get enough sleep, eat well, exercise regularly, limit alcohol. Click here for more self care options.
- Connect with people who have your best interest at heart and help you feel safe.
- Limit or end unhealthy relationships with people who make you feel unsafe and are not trustworthy.
- Discover what unconditional love really means and apply it to yourself-accepting that you are not perfect and that is OK. Read more about feeling loved and plant essences to help you feel loved.
- Seek out psychotherapy or counseling to work through and heal from not feeling safe. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is one modality that can help you learn to feel safe.
- Taking plant essences focusing on feeling safe can help tremendously. Each essence focuses on a specific thought or emotional pattern blocking you from feeling safe. If you are having a hard time right now, I encourage you to ask the plants for help. Plant essences help settle you into a new way of being, connected to yourself, nature, and your community.
If you are unsure about what plant essence to use, schedule a phone or video appointment with me to identify plant essences specific for your current situation. You can also purchase my Oracle deck and intuitively pick plant essence cards. You can also look at the plant essence images online to identify the plant essence that gets your attention. If you can’t decide on one plant essence, purchase Feeling Safe Plant Essence Blend a combination of all the plants listed below.
Take a moment to tune in to how you are feeling about being safe. What thoughts are you hearing most often? What emotions are you feeling? If you have trouble connecting to your thoughts and feelings, take 20 min to journal about whatever comes to mind. Set a timer and sit with a paper and pen. Whatever you write down helps you connect to what you are thinking and feeling.
